Rosary Gardens believe that there is an art in growing perfect roses and we hope that each rose that leaves our nursery reflects that art.
Nevertheless, we take advantage of new technologies whilst carefully maintaining what is important from our traditions. Rosary Gardens has thus embraced the latest technology and enhanced the volume of our production in hand with our quality.
Each rosebush in our nursery still receives special care from the hands of our experienced nursery staff who apply their ‘green fingers’ to prune, bend or graft the tall stems of our roses at exactly the right moment in order to create the perfect rose.
The technology employed at Rosary Gardens allows these ‘craftsmen’ more time to concentrate on their art. The control of water delivery, mixing and distribution of nutrients and insecticides, heating and cooling, ventilation and monitoring are passed to the exacting control of our interactive computer and automation systems.
Automated Components in our system include all of the following:
Pumps, return systems, thermostats, humidity and heat monitors, cooling walls and vents, central heating, mixers and distributors, ventilation louvers and fans, Ph monitors, refrigerators and security.
The entire system is centrally controlled by a computer linked to each automated component by hard-wire or radio. Control software is PC-based and graphical. With the glance of an eye our Operations Manager knows exactly what each action is and how well it provides for the optimum needs of our roses.
All control systems are linked to the home of the Rosary Gardens’ owners so that they may ensure the nursery continues to maintain the special quality that is our ‘art’.
By carefully combining the most modern of technology and techniques from around the world with our own special traditions and family secrets, we ensure that Rosary Gardens maintains its special quality even at high volumes and internationally competitive prices. Indeed, we are so proud of our quality that we add the numbered seal of excellence to each hand-selected shipment of roses. As a result, the delicate beauty of our roses and their long vase life means that they may be enjoyed for many days.
Rosary Gardens’ nursery is set in acres of untouched countryside near the region of ‘Triantafilia’ (Greek for ‘rose’).
The Cyprus climate is ideal for floriculture. Unlike Western European nurseries, our greenhouses are bathed in the warmth and light of natural sunshine ten months of every year.
Our roses enjoy the fresh natural water of an underground spring some hundreds of feet beneath the nursery. The same water cascades over a special cooling wall, to cool the clean coastal Cyprus air and in turn maintain exactly the right temperature for our roses.
At Rosary Gardens we firmly believe that we must respect the natural resources that we use and are thus committed to an environmental programme to help preserve our ‘secret garden’ for generations to come. Elements of this programme include:
– Recycling of all unused water to our own reservoir.
– Re-use of water in cooling and irrigation systems when needed.
– Energy and waste reduction through special irrigation systems imported from Holland.
– 3000 m3 of natural rainwater collection.
– Use of natural alternatives to soil that reduce water wastage.
– Special greenhouse designs reducing the need for winter heating or summer cooling.
– Use of natural methods for temperature control.
Indeed, our whole nursery – including all irrigation, cooling, heating, ventilation, monitoring and delivery systems – is fully computer-controlled to provide for the exact needs of our roses and thus reduce our waste of resources and defective roses to an almost non-existent level.
Rosary Gardens is once again proud to lead the way as the first company on the island to supply fresh bouquets to outlets like supermarkets, home centres and fruit shops. The aim of this innovation was to make beautiful bouquets conveniently accessible to everyone across the island and offer a value-for-money, quality product.
In 2008, the management of the company decided to diversify its services. Noticing the trend in other European countries for selling flowers in outlets other than florists, the company’s strong sales and marketing team launched a campaign for its ready-to-buy bouquets and soon every supermarket on the island was stocking the flowers – along with other outlets.
There are many advantages to our rose bouquets:
– They offer convenience to shoppers who can now buy fresh flowers along with their everyday purchases.
– As they are locally grown they stay fresher for longer (up to five days) as they have not travelled for days to reach the island. This also makes them environmentally friendly as they have no carbon footprint from travelling by plane.
– With regular deliveries and checks by our staff whilst on-sale we can ensure they retain their optimum quality.
As part of its continuing efforts to grow and improve, Rosary Gardens has also enhanced its facilities and equipment with the creation of a state-of-the-art 1000 m2 packing house where the roses are checked for their quality, de-thorned, put together (in a variety of colours) and then transferred in special refrigerated vans. These vans ensure that even in the sweltering heat of the summer, every single rose in every single bouquet arrives at its destination as vibrant and fresh as it was when it left the packing house. All these advances give Rosary Gardens a reputation for the highest levels of quality and service.
